The JGZ Archive is a long-time member of APAG; a NYC based non-profit that created a West Coast affiliate last year. APAG West held its second annual seminar at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, October 12-13. This year’s speakers focused on the current state of the photo market, digital archiving practices and how major museums like MOMA and SFMOMA are changing the way they acquire and exhibit photographs.
Wynn Bullock’s daughter, Barbara Bullock-Wilson, treated attendees to a special viewing of Relativity: Wynn Bullock and Albert Einstein, a 21st Editions rare book (only 15 copies total!). She shared how the project came about and displayed the book’s stunning selection of platinum prints, the only such prints ever printed of Wynn’s work.
The weekend concluded with an exclusive tour of Edward Weston’s Wildcat Hill home and darkroom courtesy of the Weston family. Kim Weston showed APAG members his grandfather’s darkroom that he has painstakingly reconstructed, while conjuring up the past with vivid anecdotes about Edward & the Weston clan.

Kim also treated APAG members to a Westonpalooza highlighting iconic photos by FOUR generations of Westons (Edward, Brett, Kim & Zach). Gina Weston described the photo workshops they offer at Wildcat and special locations around the world as well as their silver gelatin print offerings, and Zach discussed the work of the Weston Collective, a non-profit that brings darkroom photography to 5th graders, awards annual photography scholarships and provides an array of classes and workshops. The Weston family truly inspires with their message #FILMISNOTDEAD
